Instructions for Linux

Step 1: Downloading the SDK Base

To run TF2 Classic, you must have Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer installed.

Download Source SDK Base

On Linux, you will need to enable Proton support.

Note: You can also enter your Steam library and search for "Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer", installing it once it appears.

IMPORTANT: Valve has updated the SDK Base. To continue playing TF2 Classic, you will need to right-click Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer, select Properties, and switch the selected Beta to previous2021.

Step 2: Installing TF2 Classic

To download and install the game, you can use TF2CDownloader, which is free and open-source.

Download for Linux

On Linux, you must run the downloader from the terminal. Right-click in the folder containing the downloaded file, click "Open in Terminal", and run chmod +x ./TF2CDownloaderLinux && ./TF2CDownloaderLinux. Let it run.

Note: You may also download a ZIP archive of the game for manual installation.

Step 3: Restarting Steam

When the downloader finishes installing the game, you must exit Steam and then reopen it.

Congratulations! Team Fortress 2 Classic should now be in your Steam library, ready to play!
